Cetta Mainwaring

unnamedCetta Mainwaring is an academic and an activist. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo. Cetta completed her DPhil, ‘Centring on the Margins: Migration Control in Malta, Cyprus and the European Union’ at the University of Oxford in 2012 and was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at the University of California, San Diego in 2012-2013. Cetta’s research focuses on people moving across national borders, especially without state authorisation, and how these forms of migration relate to broader social, political and economic contexts. She is interested in how states respond to various forms of international mobility in attempts to deter, facilitate or shape such flows. Her work appears in a variety of international journals and edited collections.
