Del Loewenthal

DSC00619Del Loewenthal is Professor of Psychotherapy and Counselling, and Director of the Research Centre for Therapeutic Education at the University of Roehampton, where he also convenes Doctoral programmes and a critical existential-analytic psychotherapy and counselling training. He is also Visiting Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology at the University of Athens. Del is an existential-analytic psychotherapist, chartered psychologist, photographer and founding editor of the European Journal of Psychotherapy and Counselling. He was founding chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapy Research committee and previously facilitated cooperatives, community enterprises and the organisation of healthcare. Del also practices as a psychotherapist in Wimbledon and Brighton. Del’s publications include (with Robert Snell)  Postmodernism for Psychotherapists: A Critical Reader (2003) and (with Richard House) Against and For CBT: Towards a Constructive Dialogue? (2008). More recently:  Post-existentialism and the Psychological Therapies: Towards a Therapy without Foundations (2011), Phototherapy and Therapeutic Photography in a Digital Age (2013), (with Andrew Samuels) Relational Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis and Counselling: Appraisals and Reappraisals (2014) and Critical Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis and Counselling: Implications for Practice (2015).  He is co-founder of Society for Critical Psychotherapy.
