The Critical Institute is an independent platform for research, strategy and critical practice working across inclusion, development and humanitarian action, social protection, climate risk, forced migration, ethics and emerging technologies.
The Critical Institute works with organisations, researchers and practitioners who want to move beyond token inclusion and towards more honest, ethical and transformative systems and technologies that reach the most marginalised.
We bring together interdisciplinary and cross-sector capacities and policy and practice analyses to examine how institutions understand, prepare for and respond to crises and hardships— and who remains excluded when systems claim to represent and protect everyone.
Advancing inclusive systems, policies that recognise and respond to the interconnected realities of dis/ability, gender, age, poverty, ethnicity, migration, climate vulnerability and other forms of marginalisation.
Research and advisory support on inclusive development and humanitarian action, disaster risk reduction and anticipatory action with a special focus on fragile contexts in the global South.
Ethical analysis and advisory of how AI and emerging technologies can genuinely accommodate and target the poorest, marginalised and crisis-affected individuals and communities.
We question dominant systems, fashionable language and institutional habits, while remaining committed to practical change and better outcomes.
Our work values ethnography, listening, local knowledge and the political complexity of everyday life in crisis-affected and low-resource contexts.
We ask not only what works, but who benefits, who is harmed, who is heard, and what kinds of futures are being built.
